"Greening" your small business
"Greening" a business is a very appealing features for clients and customers. Once you have started this process, you have a new story to tell about your business which will not only save you money ( which goes directly to the bottom line) but also shows that you are a consciousness business person.
"Greening" means "adopting business strategies and activities that still allows you to provide awesome service to your customers and at the same time protecting, sustaining and enhancing the human and natural resources that will be needed in the future. "
A good first step is to take an assessment of your environmental and social impacts, such as energy use, paper consumption, purchasing decisions, mailing, water utilization and car travel. In these categories there are many examples which you can implement:
- shutting sown your PC's at night
- using document management software to create a "paperless office"
- planning your driving route before you leave the office
- use an alternative to plastic water bottles for your office
- separate your recyclable trash
- using small solar panels to run small electronics in your home or office.
In my home I have 3 solar panels that generate 60 watts. I use them to keep all my battery powered items charged, including the batteries for my edger, trimmer and blower.
Take this "greening" challenge and tell your clients about it; another opportunity to talk to them.
